Blocks Series: 

This is a relic from an alternate reality: a Soviet Union that never embraced reinforced concrete as the emblem of industrial progress, but instead reclaimed the forests of Europe's old estates as the substance of its utopian project. Here, the symbols of the bourgeois are not destroyed but repurposed, carved into blocks whose austere forms stand in deliberate opposition to the luxurious origins of their material. Brutalism rendered in wood, warmth shaped into severity, and revolutionary art grown rather than manufactured.

The Soviet Bloc (or Eastern Bloc) was a coalition of communist states led by the Soviet Union during the Cold War. It included the USSR and its Central and Eastern European satellites tied together politically, economically, and militarily. The bloc effectively dissolved during the Revolutions of 1989 and the formal collapse of the Soviet Union in 1991. Many former satellite states have since integrated with Western institutions, officially joining the European Union and NATO.
